A new chapter of hope came the way of all Yoruba sons and daughters as the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams, on Tuesday, charged all traditional rulers in southwest, the governors as well as religious leaders to support the call for the actualisation of O'odua Republic.
Iba Gani Adams gave the charge at the weekly Stakeholders' meeting of the Osun state leaders of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) held at the Oodua House, in Ikeja, Lagos.
Speaking on the prevailing issues in the country,the Yoruba generalisimo clear the air on the feeedbacks on issues surrounding his seven-day cursing process, which he said had been concluded on Monday.
He said the seven day cursing process were meant for those who are bent on truncating the struggle for the liberation of Yoruba race,but he later prayed for those who genuinely join the train of the struggle for the liberation of Yoruba race.
He stated further that Sunday Adeyemo Igboho had called him to apologize on the issues raised last week.
The discussion with Igboho, according to him lasted for about 20 minutes, adding that the issues have been put to rest.
The Yoruba generalissimo stated further that the issues raised during the last meeting was a robust deliberation,but one faceless, paid-agent and partisan social- media monger-Aiyekooto, who usually profit in spreading lies and misinformation about his personality to the public
Adams, however,urged all the traditional rulers,southwest governors, the media and religious leaders spreading across the three major religions in Nigeria to support the struggle for the liberation of Yoruba race.
He said the prayers from both Muslims,Christians and Traditionalists should be directed to true and sincere agitators,who are ready to pursue the Yoruba project with all their hearts.
"I want to appeal to our traditional rulers as well as religious leaders, irrespective of their denominations to come together and pray for the actualisation of this struggle for liberation of Yoruba race.
It doesn't matter whether you are a Christian or Muslim or even the traditional believers, what matters most is the prayer for the success of this struggle".
While urging the southwest governors to support the struggle, the Aareonakakanfo pointed fingers at some politicians, who, he said have their eyes in the 2023 general elections and are already scheming and calling for restructuring as a bate to douse the tension and the clamour for the liberation of Yoruba race.
Iba Adams said the wave of terror and killings is spreading from North East, North West, North Central, South East and a little in the South South and South West at the moment, maintaining that things have gone worse in the country with little or no hope.
"What we experience at the moment in the country is nothing but a strong signal for war.
It shows truly that the wind of war is blowing in Nigeria unless the Federal Government is living in denial.
But Yoruba must be prepared on the basis of self defence.
Those in the Eastern part of the country have already made up their mind to go their separate ways and they have left no stone unturned in their bids to go out of Nigeria".
Going down the memory lane, Aare Gani Adams said the Yoruba have had series of opportunities to go out of Nigeria,but some of the leaders from the southwest had always frustrated the move because of their selfish interest.
He also gave insights into the years before the Nigerian independence in 1960.
The roles of the politicians and nationalists, including the late chief Obafemi Awolowo's Western Region agenda, his trivails and triumphs in Nigeria.
Yoruba were part of his adversaries.
They lied against him but in the end, he was able to leave indelible imprints in the history of Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
Aare Adams also spoke about the locus years in Nigeria's history, the reasons for the civil war that was characterised by nepotism, disunity, injustice,lack of equity and fairness in the affairs and management of national resources, adding that the military era of Obasanjo, Buhari, Babangida, Abacha and Abdul Salam Abubakar had only draw the nation backwards,mostly with high level of insincerity, corruption,and maladministration.
"From the present situation in the country, I have a strong conviction that Nigeria cannot work any longer Yoruba have never had it so bad in the past.
There were times we find ourselves in situations where leaders like the late Pa Obafemi Awolowo, the Chief Adekunle Ajasin and the late Pa Abraham Adesanya would rise to the occasion and provide the kind of leadership that the situation demands, but today, many of our leaders have their eyes in the 2023 elections that is why they have been playing politics with our agitations for the liberation of Yoruba nation.
"But whether they like it or not the movement will never falter or stop and like a moving train, we are ready to stake our very lives to actualise this dream for the sake of our future and that of the coming generation.
Going forward,the Yoruba generalissimo, however,said President Muhammadu Buhari administration had failed to justify his actions, especially, with obvious disunity, nepotism, corruption, injustice, insincerity and ability to feather the nest of his Fulani kinsmen against other tribes.
"With all these problems starring us in the face,Yoruba will continue to seek their freedom from Nigeria, because apart from the opportunity presented to us in 2005 National Political Reform Conference, organised by Obasanjo's government, which was concluded abruptly,another major opportunity came our ways in 2014 with the most successful National conference organized by Jonathan, where 494 delegates,best brains across the country, gave us 621 contents in their report.
It gave us hope of a national rebirth and prospects,but Buhari administration rather than accepting the reports, kept the report in the archive and left left it in the dustbin of history.
With this huge misadministration, a sincere Yoruba person will have a rethink about the nation that had offered us nothing but suffering"
he noted.
