Island popular shanties demolished as military arrests 16 foreigners with hard drugs, dangerous weapons

Eti-Osa East LCDA Clears Popular shanties and Plans Construction of Ultra  Modern Secretariat

The Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area under the leadership of Hon. John Campos Ogundare has swung into action to begin the construction of an ultra modern secretariat for the council at its permanent site in Alasia area of Ajah.

The operation which began earlier on Wednesday saw the council leadership with the collaborative efforts of security operatives  chase out the illegal occupants and miscreants who have turned the site located at 10 family area of Abrahm Adesanya Estate to a den of criminalities.

It was observed that efforts by previous administration to clear the site off illegal occupants and miscreants proved abortive. However, the current leadership of the council has left no stone unturned to do the needful in order for development and construction work to start in earnest.

In the course of clearing the site, 16 hoodlums who were mostly foreigners from Benin, Togo, and Niger were arrested with machetes, axes, daggers and hard drugs. They were eventually handed over to security officers for further prosecution.

In another development, one of the illegal occupants whose duplex was marked for demolition for encroachment had threatened that he would sue the council, stating that he bought the land legally from an appropriate channel. The council leadership, however, gave him more time in order to vacate the premises as his claim was not veritable.

As the exercise continued, trailers were coming in to drop blocks for the fencing of the site.
