The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu charged the Female Strike Force (FSF) on securing schools in the FCT.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a 3 day training at the Command Headquarters, Wuse, zone 5, Abuja, the Commandant said the primary responsibility of the FSF is to ensure safety in schools, hence, the reason to equip them with the needed skills and capabilities.

According to the Odumosu, the training  is a follow up to the meeting of all FSF Unit Commanders with the Commandant General(CG), Dr. Ahmed A. Audi at the National Headquarters, Airport Road, Sauka where he charged them on the need to be up and doing in view of the reported cases of kidnapping in some parts of the country.

"The training is imperative to ensure compliance with the CG's directive on the mandate of securing schools for the safety of students and staff.

"Cases of abduction in schools must come to an end, that is the primary purpose of this training, we need to restore the confidence of the people in our ability to secure schools in the FCT," the Commandant said.

The FCT NSCDC boss called on schools management to ensure they register with the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) so that they could be added to the ecosystem.

He added that the registration which is free for all schools across the country, will give them access for better coordination at the centre and equally make response to emergencies quicker and more efficient.

The Commandant assured that the training and retraining program shall be organized regularly for personnel at the Command to ensure prompt readiness to combat insecurity in the society and make schools safe haven once again for children.

He said the Female Strike Force should conduct routine patrol and surveillance of schools to prevent threats and attacks. He also enjoined the strike force to create time for security awareness/enlightenment for student and teachers alike.

Odumosu consequently urged the FSF to abide by the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) in their discharge of duty and should not be over zealous in the use of force or fire arms.
