The Nguvu Change Leaders in an impassioned open letter addressed to the Women Affairs Minister, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, have called for concerted efforts to accelerate progress in women’s empowerment and development across the country.
Marking International Women’s Day 2024, the letter acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Nigerian women while emphasizing the urgent need for investment and support to address pressing issues.
Campaigns led by prominent Change Leaders within the Nguvu Collective highlight critical areas requiring attention, including women’s health and wellbeing, education, economic empowerment, and leadership development.
From advocating for the removal of taxes on menstrual products to pushing for legislative reforms on maternity leave and property rights, the Change Leaders underscored the multifaceted challenges faced by women in Nigeria.
With over 108 million women in Nigeria, the letter urged the Minister to prioritize initiatives that uplift and empower women, including addressing healthcare disparities, enhancing educational opportunities, and fostering inclusive leadership.
